Is there a beat we hear when The City sleeps? Does she make a rumba or does she samba herself to sleep? Does she speak of dreams deferred and questions why? Are there answers apparent in the tears she cries? Does she snore, like the liberating horn of Dizzy’s lips, loud, haunting and precise? Who is this City? What is this language the City speaks? Is she a lady or a woman, a little girl or an elder mother, or all and everything at once?
Youth Speaks’ Spoken City, an intergenerational, curated monthly arts showcase celebrates the new works of established writers, emerging poets and young Spoken Word artists. When The City speaks under candlelight, we listen.
