Khalil.Anthony Peebles: AIE Director

Khalil Anthony Peebles is an artist-educator with a deep commitment toward progressive and sustainable change, as well as supporting young people’s empowerment and the acquisition of one’s own voice. Throughout his artistic and educational career, he has worked to secure his own voice and maintain an awareness of the impending growth of his objectives and mission. Through this movement, he has been involved with dance, theater, poetry, song, art and education, and continues to move forward investigating new talents that are constantly being birthed in his universe.

He has taught in elementary schools and colleges, stages and classrooms, the world outside and in. Khalil’s dedication to his own personal transformation is the catalyst to his pedagogy, which transcends textbooks and black boards and is open to the wide world that awaits us all.

Recent accomplishments include completing his first solo cd entitled, urbanfolksunshine: which was produced under his own URBANFOLK MUSIC PROJECT. Heorganized and traveled with 15 students to Venezuela for the 2nd time in two years with BAYGI, (Bay Area Youth Gone International), an organization in which is his a founding member, and has had two chapters in his forthcoming novel, greyhound,published in three journals online and in print.

Khalil Anthony has received a Masters in Humanities and two Bachelor’s of Art degrees; one in Elementary Education with a minor in History, and another in Film Production. His commitment to his own education and that of others instills in his work a sense of urgency and a desire for imperfection. With all things, change is the only constant, and the work that is weaved by this magic-maker/dream conjurer is impermanence in its finest.
